Spotlight: Kristin Martin

Because we are all spending so much time at home right now, I wanted to share a few people who I love to follow and am inspired by, whose work and profiles transport you and are a bit of an escape right now.

I can’t remember how I started following Kristin Martin, but she quickly became one of my favorites to follow. She shares the most beautiful images of her historic Greek Revival home and I always love seeing her auction finds and latest discoveries for the house. I absolutely love how she blends old with new, in a very chic and understated way. I’ve also been enjoying seeing her gardens on her stories each day—so calming during this time! Follow her @kristinellenmartin and @gippyplantation.

IN HER WORDS…

Hi! My name is Kristin, and I’m an interior designer in Charleston. My husband and I are currently restoring our historic Greek Revival home located outside of Charleston, South Carolina where we live with our two goldens, Hudson and George.

HOW SHE’S KEEPING SPIRITS UP…

During this scary and unsettling time, I’ve made it a priority to focus on the little things that bring me joy. Spending time in my garden and getting as much fresh air as possible really calms my anxiety. I’ve made it a habit that any time I feel stressed out and overwhelmed by everything that is going on, I immediately go outside and reconnect with mother nature.

I’ve also really enjoyed creating and trying new recipes, especially with spring ingredients. If I could plan my perfect afternoon during quarantine, I would spend some time creating a new dish and then have a beautiful, simple dinner outdoors while the dogs play.

WATCHING & READING…

Right now, we have been binge watching Monty Don’s Gardeners’ World on BritBox (Can you tell I’m on a garden kick right now?!) If you don’t have BritBox, I highly recommend!

I’ve also been stocking up on different coffee table books—I recently purchased The Garden Chef: Recipes and Stories from Plant to Plate and Jasper Conran: Country. Both books are incredibly inspiring!

SMALL BRANDS SHE’S SUPPORTING…

Floret Flower: They are a family-run farm and have seeds from the most beautiful flowers! Now is a great time of the year to start gardening.

Marigold Living: Beautiful handmade textiles from India (they’re having a sale right now!).

— Support your local caterers and florists! All of their events that they usually generate business from have most likely been cancelled—so reach out to them and ask if you can purchase some dinners to have throughout the week and a bouquet or two to brighten up your home.

Thank you so much Kristin! Read more Spotlight profiles here.
