Interior Envy: Gil Schafer

I’ve been a longtime admirer of architect Gil Schafer, but even more so since buying both of his books, A Place To Call Home and The Great American House. His level of detail is so impressive and he has exquisite taste. He often works with talented interior designers like Rita Konig, Michael S. Smith and Miles Redd, as well as landscape designers like Deborah Nevins to create incredible spaces and grounds, although he does do interiors for some of his projects.

Gil’s houses are full of beautiful millwork and thoughtful details. Every space feels so considered in an understated and quiet way, as though it was always meant to be, even in the brand new homes he designs. I have been studying his work over the past few months and one of the things I love most about his homes is how pattern and color is used in a way that makes them feel neutral—truly so impressive. I highly recommend his books as they are chock full of information, resources and details.
