Rivertown Lodge - Hudson

Last weekend Grant and I went on a weekend getaway to Hudson, NY to relax a little before I started my new job. I had been wanting to check out the newly-opened Rivertown Lodge and this was the perfect fall weekend to do so.

The building itself has a lot of history - it was originally a movie theater in the 1920s (it still has the old marquee sign!) and was later converted to a hotel. The super-talented Brooklyn-based design firm, Workstead, worked on the design of the hotel, filling it with their amazing light fixtures and custom furniture pieces.

Every detail was carefully considered and it really showed. Case in point: they have some of the coolest light switches I've ever encountered. The hotel's lobby is perfect for relaxing and hanging out and because it's located right on Warren Street (the main drag in Hudson), it's only a quick jaunt from lots of restaurants and shops. We loved walking around and coming back inside to warm up and chat with one of the owners, Ray.

A few things you can't miss:

Gaskins - While this restaurant isn't technically in Hudson, it's only a quick 15 minute drive and I promise it will be an amazing meal.

Flowerkraut - Right across from the Rivertown, this cute shop is both a floral studio and boutique with lots of amazing finds.

2 Note Hudson - This local perfumery worked with Rivertown on their shampoo, conditioner and body wash, which is what initially led me to the store. I was surprised by their large array of products, including some natural skincare products (that of course smelled amazing).

Cafe Le Perche - The staff at Rivertown recommended this spot for brunch and it did not disappoint! I recommend making reservations as this is the spot to brunch.

Hawkins New York - I had to be dragged out of this store before I bought everything in sight! The store is curated with beautifully designed goods, as well as their own in-house line. Come here for their luxurious linen bedding!

A glimpse into what I packed...

Industry Standard jeans / J.Crew loafers (sold out - similar here and here) / Zara sweater (old - similar here and here) / Madewell sunglasses (old - similar here and here) / J.Crew Fair Isle sweater

weekend getaway

Weekend getaways are, in my opinion, one of the best parts of summer. There are so many great places within a few hours drive from NYC, and upstate New York is quickly becoming one of my favorite destinations. The Hudson Valley is full of unique small towns, each with its own sensibility.

I'm excited to announce that I've teamed up with onefinestay, and am heading to the Hudson Valley this weekend with a group of friends as an early birthday trip! onefinestay is an amazing resource of homes you can rent throughout select cities across the world. They are founded on the idea of handmade hospitality, so each home is well-appointed with everything you could possibly need.

I can't wait to check into our home for the weekend and explore the surrounding area! I'll be sharing details of our weekend on my instagram, as well as on onefinestay's instagram. Follow along to see what we're up to!

And what would a weekend getaway be without a packing list?

The key to packing for any weekend getaway is a great bag that can fit all your essentials without breaking your back. The Catalina Weekender by Lo & Sons is my weekend bag of choice (Grant's is the Everlane Weekender)—I especially love the bottom compartment for shoes so they don't dirty the rest of your clothes!

Minimal clothing is needed because you'll be in your bikini most of the time, anyway! I always pack a pair of jean shorts, a few striped tees, an oversized button down and something special—like this chambray romper.

A few accessories are all you need—a sun hatsunglasses and a pair of espadrilles. Of course, a witty beach towel doesn't hurt and a camera to capture all the fun!

In case you're looking for some inspiration, I've made a Pinterest board celebrating the spirit of weekend getaways. And what is a trip without some good music? Check out the Spotify playlist I curated for our trip!

nyc staycation

This past Friday, Grant and I spontaneously decided to do a staycation here in the city. We had been toying with the idea for awhile, and when The Standard launched their new app, One Night Standard, and had $99/night rooms, we jumped at the chance to make our idea a reality!

We opted for a room at The Standard High Line over their East Village location so we could explore a different part of our city that we don't often get over to. After work, I ran home and quickly packed us a bag and headed to the hotel. Our room was perfect, with views of the High Line and the rest of the city.

We took the opportunity to get a little dressed up and went to dinner at a little Italian spot nearby and then had drinks at the hotel. On Saturday we got up and had brunch at The Standard Grill (order the cinnamon-sugar donuts!) and spent the afternoon wandering around the West Village. The neighborhood was buzzing with the reopening of the Whitney Museum so we stopped by to check that out.

I highly, highly recommend trying out a staycation - it seriously felt like a true vacation, even though it was just for a night!

about that break...

It's been awhile - oops! I definitely did not set out to take a two-month break from here, but after some time away I'm anxious to get back at it. How has your 2015 been so far? Mine started off a bit rocky, but things are better now and I'm just counting down the days until spring!

Anyway, what's been going on?

Reading: Simultaneously reading two books - Yes, Please by Amy Poehler and Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Once I finish one of those I'll be reading The Girl on the Train for my book club!

Loving: My recent haircut. It's a little shorter and I've finally been able to get the hang of making waves with my curling iron, using the wrap technique. It's the little things.

Coveting: Anything and everything denim. Like these straight leg jeans. And this chambray shirt. These perfect high-risers. And the jeans I'll be wearing all spring. This is the plan for the next few months.

Needing: WARM WEATHER! Seriously, though - you West-coasters don't know how good you have it! Our trip to California in April cannot come soon enough. We're going on a family vacation to Yosemite (my first time!) and then spending a night in Palm Springs (which I cannot.wait.for). Send any recs!

Working: On lots of fun little freelance projects!

Finishing: My weaving from Maryanne's workshop that I took back in January. I'm loving the break from all the time I spend staring at a screen and want to turn it into a bigger hobby of mine! Who wants a weaving??

so long 2014

There's only a few more hours left in 2014 (at least for us on the east coast) and I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your support this past year! It means so much to me that you keep coming back and reading (despite my large gaps in posting) and continue to inspire me. This space is so special to me and I am constantly amazed by the opportunites and people that it brings into my life.

A few highlights from the year...

+ Having our apartment featured on Design*Sponge...

+ And then being featured again about my job at Madewell...

+ Had my instagrams turned into prints...

+ Took numerous trips out to my adopted second home, LA...

+ Worked on some awesome freelance projects, including the new  Sara Kate Studios Shoppe...

+ And established an amazing group of girlfriends who are equally supportive + hilarious...

Thank you ALL for such a great year - I look forward to seeing what 2015 brings!

a few things

Happy Friday everyone! Popping in to share a few things with you...

+ Chatting all about nails over on the Paintbox blog this week! It was so fun to try a different kind of manicure and to share some of my inspiration and favorite polishes. Thanks again to Paintbox for having me!

+ Entertaining for guests doesn't come naturally to me, so I was excited to see Chelsea's laid-back backyard gathering. It made planning an evening seem so simple and natural! P.S. having major envy over her beautiful backyard!

+ Emma shared an awesome site she's featured on: 5 questions for 100 designers. Some of my favorite designers are featured including Michael Bierut, Roanne Adams, and Lotta Nieminen.

+ I woke up to a fun announcement from Everlane - they are now offering 1 hour delivery in NYC (and SF) using Postmates delivery service! I'm excited to try it out soon - maybe a new sweater or hat is in order?

life lately

Wanting: This cozy plaid jacket but really needing a new warm winter coat like this one. Winter is officially here, despite my best efforts of warding it off, and my old North Face from college has definitely seen better days.

Listening: To Serial and Taylor Swift's newest album. Because, who isn't?

Obsessing: My friend Katie just launched Buddy Editions, a new site offering limited-edition artwork starting at $50! I'm wishlisting this botanical print, this photo of Bill Murray and these NYC matchbook illustrations.

Needing: A haircut, badly. I can't decide if I should keep it at it's current length or chop a few inches off. I'm being highly swayed by one of LC's latest cuts to do the latter.

Reading: A mix of Lean In and Erin Gates' book, Elements of Style.

Planning: A true vacation in 2015. We are always going to LA to visit family, but I'd love to take a trip somewhere new that we've both never been to! Any recommendations?

weekend moments

This weekend included double brunching (a term coined by Janelle), first at The Fat Radish on Saturday and then at The Penrose on Sunday. It was my first time to both places and I loved them both! I spent the entirety of the weekend in this sweatshirt from our latest collab collection with Sezane, and wrapped up in this oversized scarf. It's getting quite chilly here and it's the perfect scarf to block out the cold. How was your weekend?

P.S. this is the last week you can get 15% off all Daniel Wellington watches! Use code 'dreamsandjeans' through Saturday the 15th!
